Isaiah 45 Explained

Traditional scholarship tries to tell us that Isaiah 45 is talking exclusively of Cyrus of Persia.  All one has to do is read it and see that this is not so.  In fact, most of Isaiah 45 is prophecy dealing with our day.  Included in this chapter is the main portion of what I use to show people irrefutable proof of the existence of a Supreme Being, although the body of this proof is certainly not limited to what is contained within this chapter because there is irrefutable proof of the existence of the Supreme Being throughout both the writings of Moses and the prophets.

1 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

Cyrus was the king of Persia. Nonetheless, the Supreme Being was about to use Cyrus to fulfill His own purpose. This is why the Supreme Being sent the Isaiah prophets to an audience with Cyrus. The Supreme Being wanted Cyrus to know that even though the Supreme Being was the deity of Israel, the Supreme Being was going to hold Cyrus' hand and give Cyrus tremendous wealth and success for helping Israel.

UPDATE:  Someone pointed out to me that Cyrus lived a considerable time after Isaiah. Even scholars know that the book of Isaiah was written by more than one author. "Isaiah" was actually, by strict definition, a cult, a small, tightly held group of prophets and followers, which continued for a very long time after the demise of Isaiah, the man. It was representatives of this group that presented Cyrus with his charge from the Supreme Being.  In fact, further study reveals that the Isaiah “cult” is primarily made up of descendants of Isaiah, and is literally Isaiah’s family.

4 For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

The Isaiah prophets make it clear to Cyrus that he has been chosen to do this job for Jacob, also known as Israel, even though Cyrus has not known the Supreme Being. The Supreme Being makes it clear that He is the only deity, and that there is no other deity beside Him. The Supreme Being tells Cyrus that He has been taking care of Cyrus all this time, even though Cyrus didn't know the Supreme Being.

6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.

The "they" in "That they may know..." is everyone in the world who looks to Cyrus as a great king, from the east to the west. Cyrus is to declare that the Supreme Being is the only deity to the whole world, not just of Israel, by his power and success. The Supreme Being declares that He, the Supreme Being, is ultimately responsible for everything both good and bad, darkness and light, peace and war. In short, every good thing and every bad thing are ultimately the doing of the Supreme Being.

7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

The Supreme Being makes it very clear that all things, good and bad, are ultimately His doing. Even the evil done by the Assyrian is claimed by the Supreme Being because the Supreme Being uses His adversaries to achieve His will.

This demonstrates part of the lie perpetuated on people, the lie that "God is good" and all evil is therefore from elsewhere. The Supreme Being is good, yes; but the Supreme Being, the real deity of Israel, is also very evil.

8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.

The Supreme Being is now shifting away from the subject of Cyrus; instead beginning to reveal to Cyrus what is coming in the future. Out of the sky will pour down "righteousness". Out of the opening earth will be "salvation" and "righteousness" together. [See Zechariah 14:4-5 for the salvation from the opening earth that this speaks of.] These statements, along with "I the LORD have created it" follow verse 7 for a good reason: What is righteousness and salvation to Israel will be horrible and dreadful to the enemies of Israel when this prophecy is fulfilled. The world will call the Supreme Being "bad" for His righteousness and salvation because the Supreme Being will be saving Israel from the world.

From this point on in this chapter we read only of a time far into the future for Cyrus, a time when Cyrus will have been dead for thousands of years. But the Supreme Being is telling Cyrus these things because He wants Cyrus to know the extent of what good Cyrus will have done by helping Israel.

Another reason Cyrus is being told these things is because the goings-on in the King’s court are recorded in official documentation.  The Isaiah prophets wanted this information, which pertains to the then-far-distant future, to be recorded in official public records, so that the proving element of time would apply, and make the proof contained in this prophecy irrefutable.

9 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

10 Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?

Verse 9 and 10 describe the one who was cast off as a potsherd, a broken and useless piece of pottery. This is the one described in Ezekiel 28 and 31 and the one who fell and was stripped of his power. This potsherd "strives", works, with the other potsherds of the earth, the ones described in Ezekiel 31:17 as "...them that be slain with the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen."

The potsherd and his potsherd servants are mentioned here because they are the enemy who the Supreme Being will be defeating with His righteousness. They are the enemy against whom the Supreme Being is warning Israel about in the rest of this prophecy.

The potsherd is also mentioned here, in the records of Cyrus’ court proceedings, because this potsherd will one day be reincarnated as “the Assyrian”, as an Assyrian ruler which will also rule Iraq, known anciently as “Persia”, the nation Cyrus ruled.

11 Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.

I continually wonder how anyone calling himself or herself a scholar can read this verse and mistake anything that follows as applying to Cyrus. The verse clearly states that what the Supreme Being is going to speak of are His sons who are the work of His hands. This is not Cyrus.

Cyrus himself was nurtured to his position, not his people. On the other hand, Israel had twelve sons, whose bloodlines were all carefully engineered by the Supreme Being's direction, beginning at least as far back as Abraham, insofar as we have records; and with a considerable gap, Noah, who was perfect in his generations back to Adam and Eve, the first two of the new creatures, through Seth.

This verse is key in understanding the format of the following prophecy. The prophecy is given as answers to questions we are to ask. When you read the prophecy, you are to ask the obvious questions that present themselves from the answer.

This is why I nicknamed Isaiah 45 the “Jeopardy” prophecy.  “Jeopardy” is a game where the answer is given, and you must ask the correct question that fits the answer.  In order for you to know the correct question, the item or event being dealt with must have been in the past, or at least no later than the present.  You cannot give the question to an answer, if the answer has not yet occurred.

This is why this chapter unquestionably is written to people who live after the events which are dealt with have already occurred, a people for whom this chapter is ancient history, literally.  Until the events being answered have already occurred, a correct understanding of this chapter is literally impossible.

This is one way our Supreme Being confuses the scholars and the so-called “wise” who have attempted to teach lies in His Name but who had no knowledge of the truth.  Because these “wise ones” had no real knowledge of prophecy, they could not accurately give the questions to the answers asked in this prophecy, for these prophesied events had not yet occurred.

12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.

Verse 12 is a short verse with a huge amount of information. The first question we are to ask is, "Who is giving us this prophecy?" The second question we are to ask is, "How can we prove that this being is for real, and not just a made-up deity?"

The answer to both questions appears in the answer. The first question is answered obviously; however, the second question could not be answered until modern times when we know how the universe was created. Within this statement is proof given to all modern people who are familiar with the "big bang", the stretching out of the universe from a singularity.

Isaiah is not the only prophet to use a phrase such as "...I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens..." when describing Who it is who is giving the revelation. Prophecies including such phrases when identifying the Supreme Being are always intended to be read and understood only in modern times. They are for us, today.

13 I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.

The question asked in verse 13 is, "What are some things I should look for in identifying the one who is going to save Israel?" Again, I cannot see how anyone can read this verse in context and mistake the "him" in this verse for Cyrus or anyone else who at any time asks for, desires, or receives any kind of reward or glory for his actions. We just read in the first three verses of this chapter that Cyrus would be helping Israel for tremendous rewards. This "him" will serve the Supreme Being for neither price nor reward.

The "him" in this verse, and subsequent verses when speaking of one who will help Israel, is none other than one of Israel's descendants who lives in or after the time in which this prophecy has been first understood. This individual will be one who follows the admonition of Proverbs 3:5-6, allowing the Supreme Being to direct all his ways. This individual will build Jerusalem, which obviously then must need building, as it most definitely does NOT need at this time. And he will release prisoners who are imprisoned for the sake of the Supreme Being's righteousness.

Obviously then, if such an individual were himself imprisoned, he would have no problem getting himself out.  Thus anyone claiming to be the person in this prophecy who has not only been unable to free prisoners, but is himself locked away in prison and cannot even set himself free, cannot be the one he claims to be, can he?

14 Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.

To understand this fully you need to have lived during the time of the Isaiah prophets and Cyrus.[1]

"The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans..." are given as examples of the kind of people, the "men of stature" who will be coming over to Israel. In short, what we are seeing here are the leaders and missionaries of a set of wealthy, enterprising sects of a particular religion.

The exact year that this prophecy begins is indicated by this verse. Let me explain with an example. Suppose you say that you are going to come visit me. Trouble is, suppose I don't have a home for you to visit, no address. Before you can come visit me, I have to have a home, some place where you can "come over unto" me.

Until the present nation of Israel was formed by the United Nations, if these rich missionaries were to go to the land, they would be going to what was called "Palestine" because the Romans renamed the land of promise when they conquered Israel in 70 c.e. It was not until 1948 c.e. that there existed a legal nation of Israel once again. Since these rich missionaries did not go to Israel prior to 70 c.e., the only time they could possibly "come over unto thee" was on or after 1948 c.e. They did not come over to Israel prior to 70 c.e. because prior to 70 c.e. this religion did not exist as a formal religion. And yes, this is the same religion described in Isaiah 24.

The rest of this verse describes the nature of this religion, further proving that these who come over to Israel after 1948 c.e. are in fact missionaries of a religion.

This religion will claim that without Israel they, the religion's sects, cannot be saved; that somehow they are chained to Israel and vice versa. This religion will flatter and humiliate themselves before Israel in order to convert Israel to their deity, to be described in further detail later in this prophecy, whom they claim is the real deity of Israel.

15 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.

Verse 15 is truly amazing. This verse details quintessentially a doctrine of this religion that the religion of Israel of 1948 c.e. has in common: the idea that the Supreme Being is a hidden deity. Ironically, it is this very verse that the main mother sect of this religion uses as its defense of this doctrine.

16 They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols.

The mother sect, and many other sects of this religion, condones the use of graven images used in worship. This verse tells Israel that this religion that uses idols will be made up of many different conflicting, confusing doctrines. They will all teach that it is righteous to be ashamed, falsely calling shame "humility".

What is equally interesting, however, is that many of the sects of this religion do NOT agree that idols should be used in worship.  At least that’s what they think they believe.  Instead of using the actual idol of their god, they use, instead, something which originally was made of wood to represent their god.  This is significant, as you will see later, a few verses from now.

17 But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

This verse answers the question, "Should Israel listen to this invading religion and accept it's version of 'God'?" The answer is clearly, "No, absolutely not. Stay with the Supreme Being and don't be ashamed or confounded world without end by these liars."

18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

This earth, originally, was intended to be a permanent home for elohiym. Living in elohiymic bodies of flesh and blood and bone, earth was to be a paradise. Never was there any concept that a spirit comes here, gets a body temporarily, and afterward goes forever as spirit to either a place of spiritual paradise or spiritual prison or punishment.

However, this false religion invading Israel teaches just such a bogus doctrine. It teaches that the body on this Earth is just a temporary stopping-off place, a one-time trip, after which spiritual reward or punishment is inflicted forever.

19 I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

Verse 19 refers to verse 15, and adds more information regarding another religion that has in common with the invading religion the doctrine that revelations from the Supreme Being can and have come to prophets in caves and other dark places of the Earth. Some of them use the story of Elijah in the cave as an example [see I Kings 19] but they don't bother to read that the "still, small voice" was beckoning Elijah from outside the cave, not from within; and it was only after Elijah left the cave that he received any word of revelation from the Supreme Being.

The Supreme Being does NOT hide Himself from man, nor does Israel seek Him in vain, if they will but actually seek Him instead of the Baali gods they actually worship. He speaks to His prophets, and declares things that are equitable, that make sense, and that agree with what He has said to other prophets. There is no conflict when the prophets are properly understood.

20 Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.

This religion will seek to divide Israel into it's various conflicting sects. Some will escape these lies because they will listen and heed the words of Isaiah 45 and other true prophecies. This verse tells them to assemble together and stay away from this religion and it's phony god.

Then verse 20 begins to give the most revealing information about this religion's false deity and how they worship him. This false god is portrayed by the mother religion as a graven image. Associated with this graven image is something that is made of wood. This religion's universal symbol is the object of wood which is associated with the graven image of their false god, whom they claim is the savior. Isaiah says that the god represented by this thing of wood cannot save.

21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.

22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

This verse is basically my job; this prophecy was written to me and to those who come after me. My job is to tell you, to bring you together with others who understand the truth or are at least willing to hear it. This verse is the Supreme Being saying to you that this revelation is to you, for whom this revelation is "from ancient time". This revelation was not for Cyrus to understand. It was for you, who live after 1948 c.e. and who know of the "big bang", the stretching out of the universe.

Any god which has been made into a graven image associated with a wooden object, a cross, with that cross representing the god who is claimed to be the savior, is NOT the savior, but is a false god. The only religion today that uses as it's universal symbol the cross, the object of wood associated with the graven image of a god that is claimed to be the savior, is Christianity. Leave Christianity with all its confusing sects and idols alone!

And Islam as well, for as verse 19 reveals, the Supreme Being never revealed anything in a cave, which is exactly where Mohammed claimed to receive his revelations.

24 Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.

25 In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.

Verse 24 reveals that the savior of Israel will NOT be a deity. All righteousness and strength he has will come from the Supreme Being, and not of himself. He certainly will not have the power to raise himself from the dead.

When this mortal savior appears, all people everywhere will have to come [see Zechariah 14 beginning at verse 16] and all those who hate this savior will be ashamed. However, in the Supreme Being all the seed of Israel will be justified, forgiven for their sins; and will "glory", have great power over the earth.

[1] I did havoc the sentence, “I did, so let me help you with this,” written here, but I removed it.  I did not remove it because it was not true; but rather because I cannot prove that I did in fact live during the time of Cyrus’s court during the delivery of this message, and so I am not going to teach something I cannot prove.  I have a personal knowledge that yes, I did indeed live at that time, and was present at those proceedings, because I have a personal knowledge that my soul is one of the family of Isaiah, if not even perhaps the original Isaiah himself.  I know that I have lived many lives, and have been involved more than once in this war against unrighteousness.  I didn’t always know this, but as I began to study I began to “remember” things.  One might want to attribute this to an over-active imagination; and if one must do so, I certainly will not try to stop anyone from having their own personal opinions.  However, I know it inside myself.  But I can’t prove it.  Even if I could, for anyone else to know who I have been in past lives is not going to help him or her to learn righteousness.  The opinion one has of the messenger has nothing to do one way or the other with the message being taught.  People tend to listen to someone based on their opinion of that speaker, which is a serious mistake.  If a mass murderer such as Charles Manson were to tell you that 2 plus 2 equals 4, and you didn’t know one way or the other before he told you, would that change whether or not 2 plus 2 equaled 4?  Of course not.  But if you refused to prove out the equation because you didn’t like Charles Manson, you would be denying yourself knowledge.  And this is exactly what people do all the time.
